NEW PLUS-SIZE LABEL STUDIO 8 – THE BRAND LAUNCH, JOHN LEWIS KINGSTON

As you know from Part 1, dressing a plus size figure can be hard work. Being a curvy means that even though a lot of the ‘straight size’ brands now stock sizes up to 22 sometimes even 24 the cut isn’t always tailored to a fuller body shape.  I was really pleased to hear that well know high street brand Phase Eight, are launching a new plus size range aiming to offer ‘premium stylish clothing for every occasion’.

Having been lucky enough to be invited to the launch of the brand at John Lewis in London on Thursday 13th August, I was encouraged to try the collection and give feedback to the Head Garment Technician, Leanne Tennyson and intern Hannah Idle.

Leanne talked through the brand’s ethos at the event explaining their journey in building the collection over the past nine months;

“Studio 8 is a brand designed entirely with the plus size customer in mind. We’ve been meticulous about fitting our garments on a size 18 and size 24 models throughout the process, so that the finished garment truly flatters and fits.

Attention to detail is key, and a level of our design has been influenced by the latest trends to create a truly contemporary collection. We’ve strived to use beautiful fabrics, unique prints and contemporary designs that are rarely being offered at this level.”

True to their word Studio 8 fit their garments to fellow blogger Sarah, size 24 (sarahsmiles.co.uk). They aim to fit the clothing on ladies with differing shapes for their range, spanning size 16-24. After trying numerous styles in the collection I am delighted the clothes speak for themselves and embody the effort that has gone into ensuring the tailoring and fit is flawless.

I tried dresses, tops, cardigans, a poncho, you name it they had it and with each item I tried my smile broadened wider and wider, it was as if the clothes had been made just for me. Fitting perfectly and enhancing all the best bits of my curvaceous, post baby body.

Here are some of my favourite pieces from the collection, you can see the full range online at studio-eight.com and in Debenhams and John Lewis stores.

1. Beth Batwing Jumper, £59. A tangerine dream! With ¾ length sleeves drawing the eye to your waist, this jumper would be great for a shopping trip.

2. Ruth Spot Dress, £99. This wrap effect dress is so comfortable, it would lovely for work with its pencil-style skirt.

3. Daisy Linear Print Top, £79 this silk blouse round neck top has double layer pleating. The Martha Coatigan, £99 has a textured finish giving it a modern edge. Both perfect for lunch with the girls.

4. Katy Wrap Top Dress, £99. I love this dress, perfect for date night and the flared skater style skirt and tie belt shows off the waist giving an hourglass silhouette.

Look out for the update to this feature with more clothing from the collection and more pictures from the event.  Don’t forget you can subscribe to DUNIYA.LIFE in the ‘Don’t Miss Out!’ section.
